FEASIBILITY RESULTS

The feasibility study we began in late February is complete. We asked you for your feedback and you responded. Participation was very high. The feasibility study report provided clarity on a number of things. We learned that there is strong support for this campaign. There is also considerable support for all of the projects, with the number one priority being the maintenance and repair needs of the camp. Many of you are planning on contributing to the campaign. Others are undecided. Regardless, very many of you see the value of the campaign. It is also important to know that there were reasonable concerns about how the current crisis and economic situation might impact how we move forward.

So now it is time to share the feasibility study report with you. We are also in the process of working with our congregations to facilitate discussion groups. Please take a look at the feasibility study, have conversations with others about what you read, participate in discussion groups, and revisit your enthusiasm and support for the campaign.

How did the Diocese reach the vision for this campaign as conveyed in the video and "The Need"?

What progress has the Diocese made in responding to these needs over the last several years?

Focusing on Formation and Discipleship

In the past two years, in response to this feedback and input, we have refocused on the diocesan vision to become creative compelling witnesses to Jesus Christ in the Inland Northwest. We have clearly stated our mission as a diocese is to form, nurture and develop disciples of Jesus Christ in strong communities of faith for the transformation of ourselves, our communities, and the world. And, we have focused diocesan efforts on supporting and encouraging formation and discipleship within strong communities of faith.

Improving Youth and Young Adult Ministries

With this focus on discipleship, formation and strong communities of faith, we have acted on an immediate need to strengthen and develop our diocesan youth and young adult ministry. We strongly believe that our youth are not simply â€œthe futureâ€ of our churchâ€”they are vital members of our church now. At the same time, congregations often ask how to reach more young people. Strengthening and developing our youth ministry is a critical component in the development of our congregations.

We immediately took steps to strengthen our youth ministry:
The Rev. Canon John Palarine was brought in as Canon for Youth Ministry and Director of Camp Cross;
Skip Hubbard was hired as the business and facilities manager of Camp Cross;
New womensâ€™ and mensâ€™ retreats have been offered, not only at Camp Cross but also off-site during the spring months;
Expanded youth formation programs such as â€œWinterCrossâ€ and â€œEpiscopal Mission Weekâ€ are now regularly scheduled offerings.

Creating a New Position

The diocese also received a grant of over $875,000 from the Lilly Endowment in Indianapolis, which will allow us to call a new Canon for Discpleship and Formation in Spring of 2019. This new staff position will focus on helping congregations with all aspects of discipleship, such as stewardship and evalengelism, and will oversee our formation programs for adults.
