Welcome

Dear Friends,

There is a famous story about a medieval pilgrim who comes to the city of Paris and encounters a man with a wheelbarrow full of dirt. The pilgrim asks the man what he is doing, and the answer is, “I am moving this dirt from the pile over there to the pile over here.” A little while later the pilgrim encounters another man with a wheelbarrow engaged in the same task. The pilgrim asks the same question. The answer given is, “I am working to support my family.” Shortly after the pilgrim sees a third man, also with a wheelbarrow full of dirt and asks the same question and this time the answer given is, “I am building The Cathedral of Notre Dame.”

It took 200 years to build the Cathedral of Notre Dame, and it is being rebuilt as I write this letter. The Cathedral of All Saints is not quite 150 years old, and yet, there is more work to be done—and it is our time to do it.

I ask you to support this campaign “For All the Saints,” giving thanks for those who have come before us and with a prayer of hope for all who will come after us. May this house of prayer for all people continue to be a place where pilgrims seeking God may find and be found by Him.

Blessings,

Campaign Prayer

Our Father who art in Heaven, we give you praise and thanks for this Cathedral of All Saints which has been raised up by our ancestors in the faith to your honor and glory. We give you thanks for the privilege of worshiping you here in the beauty of holiness. We give you thanks for speaking to us so powerfully through the visible and tangible beauty of this place. We thank you for the generations that have been gathered to you here in Baptism, nourished by your Word and Sacraments and sent into the world to love and serve others. We thank you for those who have been joined here in Holy Matrimony. We rejoice with all those who have learned here to sing your praises and join their voices with all the Saints of every age. We thank you for those we have commended to you when their earthly lives were over. Some have found their final resting place here and the names of others are written on our walls. Lord, we love this place in which your presence abides. Give us grace now to be cathedral builders in our time and to leave to those who come after us a welcoming house of worship, a blessing to all who pass through its doors. This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and
the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen.
