Welcome

In 1807, the congregation completed its first permanent structure, which still stands as the central part of our sanctuary.

Today, as we kneel in the pews, cook in the kitchen, and picnic on the front lawn, we give thanks for the generations of parishioners, who donated their time, energy, and money to make Christ Church a welcoming, diverse, and joyous faith community.

As we continue to welcome new members and reach out to our neighbors on Capitol Hill, it is our turn to ensure the life and mission of our church for future generations.

Christ Church is a landmark building on Capitol Hill, but more importantly it is our spiritual home, where we gather to worship, socialize, raise our families, and do God’s work in the world.

After several years of study, prayerful discernment, cost gathering, and planning, we stand on the threshold of new possibilities, ready to make the financial commitment needed to prepare our church for the future. This is our vision and our time to ensure a home for the community and the ministry of future generations at Christ Church + Washington Parish.

If it is to encourage, then give encouragement;

ETERNAL GOD, who has guided and inspired this Congregation over two centuries, grant us the wisdom to see your mission for us in this community and the world, the zeal to follow that vision, and the perseverance to carry out that mission. Fill us with the knowledge of your grace throughout our history and an appreciation for the foundation given to us by the great cloud of witnesses who passed through this place before us. Grant to us grateful and generous hearts that we may move forward to accomplish your mission for us and to pass on to future generations of this congregation the foundation to carry out the mission of this parish as your spirit reveals it to them. All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
