The Need

With tremendous courage and support from our parish family, St. Nick’s has made a thorough study of improvements to responsibly sustain the physical structure of our church. The Vestry has reviewed this work and prayerfully considered the suggestions and comments of the congregation, along with the results of a feasibility study to which 54% of the congregation responded. Ninety-six percent of the respondents favored a campaign to address the issues outlined below, and accordingly, the following are humbly submitted for the support of the parish and the community.

Maintain St. Nick’s Exterior $70,000
Over many decades water has worn away brick and mortar, and rotted wooden trim and shingles. In addition to this work, we have allotted a precautionary $13,000 to cover repairs to any structural damage that is discovered when the exterior is repaired.

Provide for Our Parish Family $60,000
Our undercroft is our sole space for fellowship and for youth ministry. For safety, sanity and best use of our resources, this project will adjust the entry way, enlarge the bathroom, move and renovate the kitchen, add space for our clergy and a space for a sacristy. New carpet will also be provided.

Protect Our Historic Windows $35,000
St. Nick’s is the home to an impressive array of stained glass, which aside from its considerable artistic value, represents to many of us the light of Christ in our lives. As the first step in attending to scheduled maintenance for the glass, the south-side windows will be professionally cleaned, sealed, and the casing and trim will be replaced.

Preserve God’s House $35,000
Beneficial maintenance is long overdue inside the sanctuary. The ceiling and walls will be repaired of cracks, new lighting will be purchased, and work will be done to install additional electrical outlets in the space.

Campaign Costs $35,000
Our project has already taken many years, and the help of many others, to ensure our success. Reports, assessments, designs, and counsel, have all been of tremendous assistance. The collective costs of these efforts will be paid through the campaign.

St. Nick’s is Accessible to All $5,000
The front entrance of St. Nick’s will be made accessible to all with the installation of a small lift adjacent to the landing.

Tithing to Our Mission $25,000
St. Nick’s is not a place, but a group of committed Christians who work to better the world. Our church nurtures us, so that we may nurture others. Knowing that we are more than just a building, 10% raised by the campaign will be set aside for outreach to other communities in need. The vestry plans to hold an open forum to discuss the potential uses for this funding at the close of the campaign in September.

Total Campaign Goal $265,000
