The Need

Throughout its nearly 150-year history and thanks to the commitment of generations of parishioners, our community has maintained its vibrant heritage of both Anglo-Catholic liturgy and openness to all who arrive at our doors. With our capital campaign, we have the opportunity to support and celebrate that legacy, enhance our worship in the beauty of holiness, and support our church’s financial stability so that Saint Ignatius of Antioch can continue to be a spiritual home for generations to come.

Meeting our primary goal of $625,000 will allow us to:

Repay Our Loans
Emergency work to replace our heating system, repair our sewer lines, fix broken sidewalks and waterproof and renovate our historic church’s supporting structures cost more than $570,000 from 2016 to 2018. These capital expenses required us to spend from our Reserve Fund and to take out three loans at rates between 5% and 8%. Paying off the loans will relieve us of $60,000 a year in debt service, which has placed an unsustainable burden on our annual operating budget, causing further depletion of the Reserve Fund.
Amount Needed: $300,000

Restore Our Reserve Fund
Good stewardship requires us to repay the money that was drawn from our Reserve Fund to pay for emergency capital repairs and to fill our annual budget shortfall. Adding to our Reserve Fund ensures we can address unanticipated repairs as needed in the future and maintain a reliable flow of investment income to support our annual operations.
Amount Needed: $175,000

Improve the Downstairs Facilities
Adding a second restroom, adjacent to the existing bathroom in the Undercroft, will benefit parishioners and tenants, and make our church a more appealing venue for visiting artists and concert groups. The excavation and plumbing needed for the expansion of our facilities also provides us a cost-effective opportunity to address water penetration in our Undercroft near the electrical closet downstairs as the water table of Manhattan continues to rise.
Amount Needed: $100,000

Refurbish the Organ
Our organ is the centerpiece of our liturgical music program, an essential part of our worship and corporate life. In the past ten years, emergency measures—carried out after a major water leak and other problems—have allowed the organ to continue to serve our worship needs. However, its aging systems need to be restored in order to prevent damage to its works and to restore its full tonal range.
Amount Needed: $25,000

Install a New Sound System
Our thirty-year-old system has come to the end of its useful life and it is time to install a state-of-the-art sound system that will provide amplification, headsets for the hearing impaired, and facilitate the recording of our liturgies, sermons, and glorious music.
Amount Needed: $25,000

Primary Goal: $625,000

Campaign gifts received above $625,000 will be used to increase our Reserve Fund goal from $175,000 up to $300,000, providing a crucial added safety cushion of investment income to support our ministries and worship.
